A message from the Cave of the Grandmothers
I recently journeyed, in shamanic trance, to the Cave of the Grandmothers, an otherworldly location that exists in the Isle of Avalon, or the inner Glastonbury.
The Grandmothers ~ such a jolly crew, by the way! ~ made a big fuss of me! It was like a homecoming. But then, they got serious, and they told me that I need to concentrate on talking about the importance of re-establishing our connection with the Land, and also help more people to achieve that connection through shamanic healing work.
Later that evening, I was watching a documentary about Africa, and about a leader of the Ashanti who had been busy re-establishing his people’s connection to the Land again, after this former British colony returned to independence. He said:
“Without their connection to the Land, the people are just like so much chaff, and can be blown away at the smallest breeze.”
Without those long, spiralling deep roots to hold them in unity, they can be so much more easily divided, conquered and enslaved.
It is also through our connection with the Land that we feel the continuity with our ancestors, which is another spiralling tendril anchoring our Tree which runs deep into the Earth and then further, into the Lower World or Underworld. This holds us firm in the holistic multi-dimensional reality.
‘Connection with the Land’ doesn’t just mean tending an organic garden, or growing herbs, or appreciating a sunset. It is about reinstituting the tangible connection with the spirits of the Land. I deliberately write Land with an upper case L because this means not just the landscape that you can see from your window, or when you go out walking, but it also includes those otherworldly, other dimensional Landscapes where the spirits, like the Grandmothers, reside.
We began to lose this connection with the Land in the West when the Roman Catholic Church started roasting ‘pagans’ and ducking ‘witches’ ... all those those who still held the memories of the Land in their trust. The Christian dogma also insisted that we look to the skies (the heavens) for our salvation, rather than in the way of our ancestors who, through ritual and sacred geometry, would bring the Heavens above down to the Earth below. Instead, we were taught that the spirits of the Land either didn’t exist or were ‘pagan’ and therefore evil.
Then the Industrial Revolution forced people off the land and into the cities … the Victorians saw anything natural as something to be kept at bay and tamed and manicured into a living death. And then large-scale factory farming, with its destruction of wild life habitats, pretty well ousted us entirely.
Now we see the Land as something remote to us, something that we might get to go for a walk on at weekends… a sort of Nature theme park, just there to wow us with its stunning vistas, sparkling lakes and brightly-hued flower-filled lanes. But we have lost our sense of stewardship of the Land because we have lost our connection to it …or possibly it has been taken from us.
I don’t want to get into here whether it was cock-up or conspiracy that led us to our disconnection from the Land because that’s just a distraction from the task at hand. But I’m not at all impressed by political movements ~ Occupy, Anonymous, Sovereignty ~ that claim to be bringing in a Golden Age by encouraging us, once again, to look to the skies for our saviours ~ ETs ~ instead of to the Land.
I feel sorry for those who are convinced that their only salvation lies in getting off the Earth, somehow, and that by ascending to other galaxies or constellations, they will transform into crystalline bodies and become higher beings.
This philosophy fails to take into account that we are not our bodies .. and so getting a new one will not have any impact on spiritual transformation. Bodies are just vehicles.
Ascensionism, for that is what I’m talking about, also fails to take into account that we are multi-dimensional beings, and so even if we manage to ‘ascend’ to the furthest reaches of this universe, we will still be in this dimension and, therefore, remain burdened under the same old worries, problems and issues with which 3D consciousness weighs us down.
We are spirits taking a human journey, and it is no mistake nor evil intent of demonic aliens that we are privileged enough to be able to live on this wonderfully iridescent and fertile blue orb Eden we call Earth.
No quasi political-religious movement can achieve anything for us at all until we reconnect with the Land and claim our birthright and our destiny. And until we do, nothing will ever quite work for us ... because we are not acting holistically, in line with our multi-dimensional selves.
For instance, while it’s great to have a herb garden, it’s even better to walk through the lanes and pick the wild herbs that the spirits make sure are appropriate to our health needs on every level… mind, body and spirit.
If there’s a dandelion growing in your lawn, you should pick the leaves and put them in your salad, because Dandelion came especially for you that day, and her bright, yellow blossom was to show you where She was.
The Grandmothers told me that the spirits of the Earth are waiting for us to realise our destiny as human beings, and that our destiny involves them, the spirit peoples, as well as the animal people and plant peoples.
And they didn’t say this, but I do get the impression that until we do realise this destiny, we will have to keep coming back and back and back here, until we learn to stop running away from ourselves.
“The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering.”. Bruce Lee.
I’m posting this in here, Living Off Grid, because since talking with the Grandmothers, I think we need to change the name of this subforum. Living Off Grid is just a very small part of the change in consciousness that’s required for a real revolution to happen, which begins with consciousness and not politics, although it may be a symptom or result of that change. But first must come the change in consciousness. We must reconnect again to the Land and everything will naturally unfold from thereon.
So I’m proposing we retitle this subforum Reconnection to the Land ~ and would welcome your views on that.

I was listening to a report about Mongolia yesterday on this same suject. There is so much change in the nomadic herders enviormental area that many are having to move to the towns to survive. They are having trouble reading the signs of the seasons as it has been so irradic. I wonder if these folks who are already connected are having trouble if there is any hope for those of us who have taken it for granted for so long can feel the connection and make the connection again. Sometimes your posts are so timely it's spooky.
